NottsWatch are delighted to announce the positive strides being made in Newark.

The Newbury estate, which consists of around 300 houses, now has its own Neighbourhood Watch scheme with more areas expected to be added soon.

Plans have also been set in motion for a major new scheme around the Newark and Sherwood area later this year, with the police and Newark council anticipated to work alongside NottsWatch in identifying “vulnerable” residents.

Once these residents have been identified, Neighbourhood Watch can use this information to help support and create a safer local community.

Paul Macey, Vice Chair of NottsWatch, expressed his delight at Newark Council’s efforts to “push the principle of good community living”.

“During some recent community meetings, it has become very clear that often the public have the vital information to help the police,” said Mr Macey.

“Only when talking through some issues of local drug dealing did a householder offer some vital knowledge that he had previously not realised was relevant.”

“The police were informed and then arrests were made. Joined up thinking and sharing of local information does work!”

Meanwhile, the Newark and Sherwood District Council “Report It” campaign has received positive feedback, with a visible increase in police presence in and around the town centre.

“We are now using individual officer and PCSO contact details and those of council officers to get information quickly and accurately direct to those that need it,” Mr Macey added.

“The general feeling is that the community are seeing and hearing of much better Police support and successes.”
